Pile Load Tests

The static pile load test gives the most accurate indication of the capacity of the in-place pile. It is performed using a reaction method. The test procedure involves applying an axial load to the top of the test pile with one or more hydraulic jacks. A pile test is carried out on a single pile or a group of piles as required.

In the case of pile groups, caps shall be provided such that the required conditions of actual use are fulfilled. Generally, the load application and deflection measurement should be made at the pile top.Load tests on working piles are normally taken up to a maximum load of DVL plus 0.5 times the specified working load. This is sufficient to verify the load settlement characteristics of the piles under service conditions.
